HOW TO GET OVER CONFIDENCE BEING A BARRIER

Do you find the gym a daunting place?

I get you! I too was in your position and a few years ago I avoided the gym because it was unknown terriority. But just like me, I’m going to help you break through that barrier and start enjoying your time in the gym.

When it comes to reaching your fitness goals the gym is going to be a good place to spend some time. The wide variety of equipment and being surround by people who are on a similar mission can do wonders for motivation. BUT where should you start?

Here are my top tips…

  1. Get Clear on Your Vision

What is your purpose for attending the gym?

Once you have defined the purpose you can start to plan the steps and the best workouts to be completed (I can plan them for you, click here).With a clear vision being uncomfortable will not matter, or last long as you know the steps it takes to get to your vision and discomfort is part of the process BUT soo totally worth it!

     2. Get a Personal Trainer/ Coach.

Once your vision is clear, defined and written down, do you need help?

Getting a helping hand is not a bad thing. If you’re worried about not knowing what to do, how to use equipment or have never been to a gym before, then getting a trainer is going to be a good place to start. Not only will this give you somebody to attend the gym with, it will provide you with the necessary support and guidance to prevent injuries, increase progress and give you the foundations necessary for long term success.      3. Attend a Group Fitness Class

Attending a class or group fitness program will put you in an enviroment of like minders and people who are probably feeling just like you. Nervous, scared and like everybody is watching them. In our group sessions members are encouraging each other, helping each other out and always leave having learnt something new that they can implement into their own training. By surrounding yourself with like minded people you’ll build confidence in no time!

     4.Speak to the gym 

Before your first visit to the gym phone the reception to ask for information on the busy times and If you can, let them know your first visit is coming up but your feeling anxious. I know at my gym we do everything we can to make every member feel comfortable and enjoy their experience.

     5.Acknowledge accomplishments

When you complete a gym session or attend a class , praise yourself and give yourself a pat on the back. Knowing that you’ve overcome your fear and have made your goals a priority is a great achievement.

Do this for YOU. Nobody is watching you or cares how much weight you lift. Getting over my confidence barrier has allowed me to get to where I am so far today, helping hundreds of people transform their lifestyles.
